Carrie is my name, making super epic cakes that make you go "Holy @#$*. THAT'S A CAKE?!" is my game. :) Currently I'm the only member of Creations with Care Cakes, and I hope to change that in the near future. I just completed my Bachelor's degree in Business and will be attending culinary school in the new year. I have always been an entrepreneur at heart and with this combination of skills and education, I hope to open up my own shop one day. :)
It started off with a birthday party back in 2007. I had no idea what to get for the birthday girl. Then one day, my friend suggested to me to bake a cake for her as a gift. So, on the day of the party, I got up at 5 am to bake her a cake. It was my first cake ever and I wanted to make it as fresh as possible. I was drop dead tired at the party though! But, I had a great time making it, and everyone told me that the cake was gorgeous. So I thought," Hey! I'm not too shabby at this!" and I just kept on going with it.
My parents. My late father for his culinary talents and my mother for always pushing me to work hard.
My family owns a restaurant, and I have been fascinated with food and culinary art starting at a very young age. My late father was a renowned culinary artist with expertise in sculpting pretty much everything out of anything edible. He specialized in sculpting from fruit and vegetables and won many medals for his work. He started up the restaurant when I was about 8 years old, and started to have less time to enter the competitions, but every now and then he would compete in one, and I was always so excited to sit beside him and watch him. I always had an artistic side to me, and I definitely obtained that from my dad. I always thought I would be an artist, but as I grew older, I realized I have a passion for food. So I thought, "Why not combine the two things I love? Art and food! You can't lose!"
The name "Creations with Care" is a play on words. The cakes are made with tender loving care and my nickname is Care. I didn't want to say Creations BY Care, because the people who order cakes from me help me create it as well. They bring me their ideas and themes. We build the cake together
Seeing the smiles and reactions of the people who receive my cakes, hands down. That is what fuels my passion for this, is knowing that my creations can bring so much joy to someone. I always tell people to take tons of pictures of the person receiving the cake so I can see their reaction! I don't want to miss a thing!
To everyone who has ever said a kind word about my work, thank you.
To Lindsay and Pat, for always giving me words of encouragement and having such high hopes for me from the very beginning. Thanks for making me feel like a million bucks. :)
To Dan, for being so supportive in not just my work, but in life. Thank you for helping me keep it all together and reminding me to smile. :) Thanks for polishing off the cake scraps too!
To my Mom, for all your hard work and always wanting the best for me.
To my Dad, for passing down your talent and being my inspiration.
